Little Gems

The potential closing of South Lake Shore Drive from the pier to the bridge downtown at Public Works, during one of its recent meetings, Sylvia Lake Geneva’s wonderful parking queen, spoke about the potential of closing South Lake Shore Drive and allowing vendors to rent space on that street for the rest of the summer. How Sylvia came up with that plan is not known. It sounded vaguely similar to a plan to close Wrigley drive and make it into a walking parkway that was trotted out as a result of the Roger Rabbit debacle of a downtown future plan earlier in May.

Public Works did not take action, simply because the idea was not on its agenda for action (thank God!), so it looks like, quite possibly, Lake Geneva will get to keep the traffic flowing that comes in from the south on South Lake Shore Drive. Having Broad Street cut off would back traffic up on a summer Saturday or Sunday all the way back to Stone Manor or beyond. How a woman as bright and savvy as Sylvia, came up with and presented such a plan remains unknown.
