Covid19 Immunizations for Veterans.
The Veterans Hospital in downtown Milwaukee got off to a bang-up start at giving immunizations against the virus (Pfizer) last Saturday morning. They are immunizing only five hundred a day, and the place was bedlam, at least out in the parking lot. They started at 7:15 but older vets showed up at four in the morning to wait in auto long lines running all around the outside of the building and surrounding parking lots. Once inside, however, the chosen 1500 (over three days) were treated wonderfully well. They educate you on the vaccine and the process of the two shots and immunity levels which will reach the full 96% two weeks after the second injection. Interesting facts about getting the shot:
1. It doesn’t hurt.
2. Probably some warmth and sensitivity where the liquid went in but nothing other than that.
3. They make the people getting shots sit for fifteen minutes to half an hour to make sure there’s no allergic reaction.
Of the 1500 there were none, at least showing up within a few days of the injections. The VA is expecting more than 15,000 vials of the serum to be delivered over the next thirty days. The first shots were all done by first come first serve for vets over 70 years of age and who have Milwaukee’s hospital as their primary care facility. The coming ones will be by appointment. They will reach out to vets to set appointments for the coming ones. The new vaccine identity card is kind of cool too.
