The Lake Geneva Public Library’s Winter Reading Challenge Bingo is happening right now.
People of all ages are encouraged to participate. The challenge is sponsored by the Friends of the Lake Geneva Public Library and the Rotary Club of Lake Geneva. Participants in the Bingo Challenge can go online at; https://www.lakegeneva.lib.wi.us and download the bingo card that corresponds with a matching age. The next step is to start reading once getting there. The card can also be provided via curbside delivery. Once the cards are filled out, they can also be returned via curbside or placed in the library dropbox. Don’t forget to place them in an envelope with your name and phone number written on it. Participants will earn a free book for each row of challenges completed and can earn up to five free books. If all challenges are completed, participants will receive a $5 gift certificate from Something Sweet candy store. The bingo challenge runs through February 27th.
The 2021 Great Backyard Bird Count is happening from February 12th through February 15th.
This effort is supported locally by the Lakeland Audubon Society and the City of Lake Geneva Avian Committee. They need citizens from all over the area to count the birds in their backyards, an exercise can be done in little as fifteen minutes. This can be done by people of all ages and instructions can be found at: https://www.birdcount.org/ or just search “Backyard Bird Count 2021.” The site also provides links to free online bird guides to help determine the type of birds found. Starting right now, you can also post your bird pictures on the Lake Geneva Bird City Facebook page where you can also look for bird puzzles and information. Researchers rely on the information gathered by citizens to help understand bird populations, threats, and ways to help the birds thrive.
