OUR PLACE

Four Year terms for elected officials in Lake Geneva.
This idea was floated in front of the Finance, Legislative and Regulations Committee last week and, when not supported there, passed on to the common council for the alderperson’s consideration.  With the Hillmoor property purchase looming on the council’s agenda, however, it was decided that the matter of extending or making council members (and the city attorney’s) office service longer than the current two years (to four years) would be kicked on down the road to the next common council meeting.

Avant Cycle and Cafe on Broad Street in downtown Lake.
This is the outfit to go to for any of your bike needs, a great cup of coffee and a place for friends and family to gather. They even offer bike rentals to those wanting to get out and enjoy our beautiful communities while getting in some exercise. When you’re inside Avant they have path suggestion for those looking for a longer ride with some great scenery. On weekends they even offer organized bike rides with a stop for breakfast.

Whether you partake in a group ride or on your own make sure to grab an Adventure Passport to keep track of your travel and adventures. This book is geared towards the younger riders to help them enjoy the ride, nature, and a new experience. There are games, places to draw, keep notes, journal the ride and much more. Once the passport is complete it can be returned to the bicycle shop located in the back of Avant for a prize.

The extremely busy city council agenda also allowed for some of the private pier owners along the lagoon located on the northern end of the lake to escape paying BID payments.
Not only the council, but also the BID board, bit on the idea that private owners of docks should not have to pay fees since they are private and not businesses.  That would seem to be rational until one discovers that those private owners are mostly all renting out the slips to people living down in Chicago.  Is that behavior not business behavior?  Does that behavior not benefit from the fact that the BID attracts people up from down south to pay for those rentals?
