It was a Sunday-only affair, it was a precursor to the flea market scene in Chicago.

Dr. Philip Maxwell, a prominent Chicago surgeon and real estate prospector purchased 1,600 acres of land from the United States government in what eventually became the city of Lake Geneva. Because of this, Maxwell is widely acknowledged today as the “Father of Lake Geneva.” The iconic Maxwell Mansion which still stands today and, at the time of its construction, was a lakefront property that was Maxwell’s summer dwelling. Get ready to shop the weekend away in the beautiful downtown Lake Geneva.

Three years ago, at the Olympics in Tokyo 2020, gymnastics superstar Simone Biles sparked a global conversation about mental health and sports.

This year at the Olympic Games in Paris, she’s rocking both in and off the gym. Over the past week at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, she’s put into practice the example that inspired so many millions across the globe. Biles withdrew midway through the women’s team final in Japan, prioritizing her mental health as she dealt with a case of the ‘twisties’ – what gymnasts call when the body and mind fall out of sync. Over the past week at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, she’s put into practice the example that inspired so many millions across the globe.

That included therapy sessions before two of her biggest competitions in France, the women’s team, and all-around finals, with her U.S.-based therapist up in the middle of the night to work with the 27-year-old. So far at the Paris Summer Olympics, the Team USA gymnast has won three gold medals, adding to her tally of now 10 medals—seven golds, two bronze, and one silver. With the Paris Games not yet complete, Biles has already begun fielding questions about whether she will compete in Los Angeles in 2028. Biles has long been an advocate for protecting the mental health of athletes. They put enough pressure on themselves without the public also shaming them for wanting to be the best they can be both mentally and physically. Biles has been a symbol for many of how athletic greatness and mental health prioritization do not need to be mutually exclusive.
