OUR PLACE
The City of Lake Geneva has devoted a section of their website to the Highway 50 construction. The site can be reached by clicking the residents’ banner at the top of the home page. Hwy. 50 carries approximately 16,600 vehicles per day, with 5.1% of them being trucks. The proposed project will maintain the current number of lanes and lane configurations. The posted speed within the project limits varies between 25 MPH and 45 MPH. The posted speeds will remain the same with the project.
Environmental studies, including hazardous materials, archaeological and historic surveys, wetland delineation, threatened/endangered species review, and environmental documentation, are nearly complete. Construction is set to begin in 2027 and be completed in 2028. There are also links to all related documents for the project. Exhibits from the DOT’s March 19th Public Information Meeting regarding the project are currently displayed on the second-floor mezzanine at City Hall. The maps show plans for construction, detours, and utility replacements.
Easter Sunday is this Sunday. That’s on April 5th. In Christianity, the period before Easter holds significance, starting on Ash Wednesday, leading into Lent, and ending on Easter. This is a time of fasting and repentance. Easter is one of the premier Christian holidays, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion, symbolizing victory over death, forgiveness of sins, and the promise of eternal life. Christmas is, however, right up there with Easter as a religiously founded event, although celebrated by many billions of people around the world. Both Christmas and Easter have many other mini celebrations not affiliated with the true religious belief systems, generating the big holidays themselves. There are many non-religious Easter traditions. Easter Eggs are a favorite, which includes decorating them and a big egg hunt on Easter morning. Eggs represent birth, Jesus’s resurrection is considered a rebirth, and spring is a rebirth of all that lay dormant during winter.
It all ties together and is a big celebration in many households. The Easter Bunny is every kid’s favorite part of the holiday as he delivers candy, chocolates, and sometimes little trinkets and toys are left for the children. Family and friends will gather this weekend, most will go to Easter morning mass and conclude the day with a wonderful Easter Feast. Happy Easter and Happy Spring.
