BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S

That’s the title of a very popular old movie made back in 1961. The movie was based on a deeply flawed book, finding no solace or emotional support, with the protagonist eventually fleeing the country and lacking so much emotional feeling that she abandons her cat in a crummy New York alley. The movie version became a romance, and the cat was saved by the invented hero who sweeps Holly Golightly out of her misery and fears to remain with him and the cat.

The story of Tom Tiffany, current republican candidate for governor in the State of Wisconsin, has not played you yet. Take your pick of the way in which you want the story to travel as you watch and read what this seemingly emotionless man does and how he reacts to criticism. There’s no cat to consider or any other pets known, but just a few days ago Tiffany barred the Milwaukee Journal Newspaper from attending one of his rallies, this move following the U.S. leader who barred the media from the White House and then the dinner thrown for the Communist dictator of China. That dictator was greeted with great fanfare and even presidential compliments for the communist propaganda ‘news’ members who accompanied the dictator. The media that was there (only cameramen and women allowed) were physically pushed aside by that communist version of media personnel.

It would seem that, by adopting the actions of the nation’s leader, Tiffany is buying into the first-book version of the story of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Truman Capote wrote the original novella the movie was based on; the author became famous for writing about bloody murderers. It would seem that if there was a cat involved in this story, then it would be released into some dark alley somewhere, as it was in the first version of the book.

Tiffany is running against a man with experience and real brainpower when it comes to the numbers, much of the governor’s real job. With the price of gasoline, diesel, meat, and so much more continuing to skyrocket, is the voting public of Wisconsin going to settle for the same leadership that has brought the USA down – not to its knees yet, but certainly to bent legs- as everyone (except for Musk and the billionaire class) struggles under massive loads of climbing financial costs for goods and services?

There is little chance that Mr. Tiffany is going to step away from the breakfast table he is setting at the behest of, and with the support of, the nation’s leadership in trying to vanquish and destroy the media in every way it can. This fact shows, very clearly, that Tiffany and his minions, locally and nationally, understand that they cannot face an informed public and win their elections fairly.

The current attack by the nation, and now Mr. Breakfast at Tiffany’s local applicant for gubernatorial leadership, is not just sad to see; it’s rather relieving. Every candidate for office who acts like this with the media deserves to lose the forthcoming election, just on that note alone. If a spouse becomes outrageously angry with the other spouse for searching for used clothing, a wallet, or a purse, and that goes beyond a simple invasion of privacy, then what causes the extreme response or anger? The same kind of potential discovery of evidence that political candidates fear being found and publicized.

At the golf course at Medina, Illinois, this past weekend at a tournament, the president, the president of the United States, murmured a phrase that might apply fully to the situation Mr. Breakfast at Tiffanys has placed himself in. The president said: “I just want to go home.” Quite possibly, as this election nears, the growing monstrous pressure building on and around all republican candidates might make the president’s request much more meaningful and also give this gubernatorial candidate a truly solid reason for following advice that all of a sudden seems most logical and acceptable compared to most of the rest of it.
