THE BRIGHT SIDE

Christmas is less than three weeks away and another magical weekend of Christmas wonder is in the books.
Lake Geneva is all about lake life, small-town warmth, and people and Christmas is a great time to celebrate big. The annual tree lighting ceremony was a hit. Many came out to enjoy music from the kids at the house of music and a local celebrity Grant Milliren. The Geneva Theater Actors Guild Janelle Powers read this year’s classic Christmas story the Grinch.

Avant warmed the crowd with cup after cup of hot cocoa. The night was a collaborative effort from so many in the community including Santa, who by the way spends a lot of time in town during the Christmas season.

Saturday the fun continued with the 46th Annual Electric Christmas Parade. The community once again came together and pulled off one of the best parades ever. The many different floats were aglow and very festive. The community lined the curbs and sidewalks for an almost hour-long parade. With the recent tragedy at the Waukesha Christmas Parade the city, visit Lake Geneva, and police and fire amped up security to reassure the parade-goers. Extra barricades were placed, parking along the route was prohibited, and the city trucks blocked entrance points to the parade. The night was warm and magical and also include free hot chocolate marshmallows and whipped cream included from Tuscan Restaurant. Santa and Mrs. Claus were, of course, the highlight and finale of the parade as they spread Christmas cheer from the top of one of Lake Geneva’s fire trucks.

The fun did not end there as Santa stayed in town and visited children who came to visit at the Bottle Shop on Main and Mill Street. Santa will be back next weekend Sunday, December 12th from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and will have one of his reindeer at Topsy Turvy Brewery.

Of course, the town is decorated and aglow to the hilt for the holidays, and the downtown shops are filled with unique gift items and very festive window displays for all to enjoy, and voting on your favorite is encouraged and fun. This and so much more are what makes Christmas so wonderful in Lake Geneva.

The first appreciable snow and ice storm blew in on Sunday morning.  Not an inch, but it didn’t have to be. The City of Lake Geneva, and the roads in and around it, and everywhere else around Geneva Lake, were covered in a subtly thin layer of slushy ice.  The snow wasn’t really snow at all.  It was a form of hail/rain/snow and ice.  Freezing slush might be the best word to describe it.  Dangerous driving was the rule of the morning, as the stuff didn’t give the impression that it was slippery at all, but it certainly was.  The Christmas season is upon us, and it’s very likely that the song White Christmas won’t be a Being Crosby dream for this area of the country.
