OUR PLACE

Driehaus estate sells to the country’s 128th richest couple.
The Reyes family runs one of the largest businesses in Chicago.  They operate in the alcohol supply area (with an emphasis on beer). They hold many deeds to properties around the U.S. and are now adding the Driehaus address to their collection. Will this very wealthy family be a positive asset to Geneva Lake’s inner edge?  Only time will tell, although the Town of Linn, where the property is located, will be very happy to be receiving extensive property tax revenues every year, no matter what.

The double “A” aces who run the business on Broad Street named Amy’s Shipping Emporium.
Alex and Amy are their names, and shipping is their game, but they do ever so much more.  They give directions to wayward people trying to ship through means and companies the emporium is not affiliated with.  They box, tape, and prepare packages, many times at little or no cost.  They comment voluntarily about parking, traffic and the condition of life in a small lake-front town.

Mayberry, the fictional town where Andy Griffith played the sheriff in that old television soap opera, has nothing on the emporium.  If it’s really cold and you want warmth, then go into the emporium and warm up.  Not just physically, but psychologically, as well.  Amy’s husband is named Bob. Bob manages their many rental houses and apartments in town.  He is beloved as a landlord, unlike almost all other such businesspeople handling property today.  Some parts of Lake Geneva, the city, are working like silent well-oiled watches, and  Amy’s Shiping Emporium, operated by these wonderful people, is one of them.

A cashless beach is on the near horizon.
The Lake Geneva Harbormaster has discussed the pros and cons of a cashless beach with city officials. Previously, the issue of the price of admittance at the Riviera Beach was discussed, but that will remain at $8.00 per person. The use of the Viply App was another big discussion item, and that app will now be used at the beach and Lake Geneva Boat Launch as well.

The times are changing, and technology is streamlining the process of almost everything, but at what cost? Not everyone is okay with such a lack of human contact. The cashless beach and boat launch have been on the minds of anyone involved with the handling of it and the responsibility that comes with it. The piers, harbor, and lakefront committee recommended approval, and the finance, license, and regulation committee also recommended approval. The city council gave final approval on Monday night and its official, the beach will go (essentially) cashless. Locals make sure to utilize the beach passes available at city hall for all residents at a very discounted price.

Visitors are going to have to either pay at the kiosk with a card, pay in cash with cash but not be able to get change, or they will pay with the Viply App. Signage will be visible to make the transition smooth for all beach goers and beach staff next summer.  Alderperson Howell voted no on the cashless beach.  He said that he was too old-fashioned to approve it.  Alderperson Howell is to be better liked for that comforting decision.
