Public comments regarding impact fees and Pollard’s reaction to them.
Impact fees, or the lack of them, have caused a stir, and a lot of conversation around the city. Public comments have been frequently made by some residents, of which, Bill Huntress is one. Bill is a big advocate for the re-implementation of impact fees being updated and reinstated. Huntress believes there is something shady going on in regard to the fees not being re-implemented or even increased since 2004 and has been stating that previous administrations have had deals going on under the table and that the developers are not paying their fair share.
Brian Pollard was at the meeting and didn’t hesitate to try to defend himself. According to Pollard, no favors or deals have ever been made and he has always paid every fee applicable. The city and the developers have an agreement, and it is controlled by the city, not the developers, according to Pollard. It’s time for the city to revisit the ‘agreement’ and it has a study being conducted to make new changes accordingly. The outcome of that study will determine what is required from the developers and which fees will be updated or reinstated. This is not a quick process, however, and the potential money that might become available again is needed now by many service departments of the city. The departments will not benefit for some time, however, and that creates city budgeting problems on into the future.
Senator Ron Johnson.
This man is running again for the office he currently holds. During his tenure, the importance of teachers was minimized, with his support. The high-speed rail, to be paid for by the Federal Government, was canceled, with his support. The Foxconn scam, costing the state, cities, and other surrounding communities of Racine, Kenosha, and Pleasant Prairie hundreds of millions of dollars, was pulled off (and is still underway), with Johnson’s support. This man is now running again, this time going way out on the Qanon ‘surfboard’ with statements that are so anti-vaccine (like the vaccine for the virus causes AIDS!) that he is literally killing Wisconsin citizens. With his support. Please, vote for somebody else, anybody else, and let this man do what the other raging republican leaders over the past few years did once out of office. Move to another state.
Last Monday city workers moved in the early morning hours to take out and haul away some huge boulders that were positioned behind the Towers.
What’s going on? Those boulders were located on private property. According to one of the residents of the towers, whose husband is on the board who runs it, “the boulders were moved by the city because the Towers gave them to the city as a gift.” Who approved the reception of this ‘gift,’ and who made the decision to pay for the removal, transportation, and relocation of these big rocks? That question remains unanswered. Is it true that any property owner in Lake Geneva can get rid of unsightly yard stuff by ‘gifting’ it to the city and then having the street department pay to have it hauled away? The city does have a new ‘gifting’ ordinance, set up because the mayor had s0 many people donate stuff to the city for the Riviera project. However, the city council must approve all gifts, and these rocks were not approved.
Whether it’s local, statewide or national politics, the good-ol-boys network is alive and well. Seventeen years in the military and visits to foreign countries showed me that the U.S. of A was a good place to call home . As I’ve aged I see the corruption of “third world shit hole countries” has become endemic in all levels of government.
Whoever made the deal(s) with lical developers to waive impact fees is a dip s…t. Our property taxes in Lake Geneva are BS when you see what lake front property owners are being gouged for. Where is the money going and why are developers NOT paying impact fees?
Case in point we live on Stone Ridge Drive and the second in n out access road/intersection was NOT completed and now with the continuing development up on the hill we are forced to put up with a DANGEROUS intersection to get in and out on Center St. and N. Interchange Rd.
City officials allowing the permitting of developments MUST allow citizens/taxpayers to give input on these developents that some COMMON SENSE needs to be applied. It’s not just the current, but the future growth down the road must be incorporated into impact fees, and not just an ok to the developers to save a few bucks on their projects. Something smells in the permitting in Lake Geneva.
Well stated, ED
We hope you continue to battle and attend the meeting to create dialog and let’s all put government straight.
