The speed limit will be reduced along a part of Highway H, from Cemetery Road north to the Lake Geneva city limit.
That’s right near the House of Music facility.  There have been problems by Grant Street and George Street, with drivers speeding, and a lot of potential near-miss accidents. There have been patrol cars sitting in that area watching traffic and pulling cars over, when necessary, but they cannot patrol the area or sit by the side of the road all the time. With construction on Highway 12 expected to take up to two years and the detours along parts of Highway H, the police department is concerned about speeding and accidents becoming much more prevalent and possibly deadly.

The Town of Geneva decided to reduce the speed limit by Klokit from 35 mph to 25 mph, so the City of Lake Geneva wanted to get on board by reducing the speed limit from Cemetery Road down to the city limit.  The new speed limit is 25 mph also. The thought is to be proactive about getting drivers to slow down the traffic before it gets into the city, especially before the sharp curve as it becomes George Street. The recommendation passed through all committees, so pay close attention as you are driving along Highway H, as these changes will be made soon.

Bill Gage was present at the Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront Committee meeting last week.
He was there to talk about the shared agreement and understanding regarding the use of the boathouse located on the Riviera pier. The boathouse has been shared by Gage Marine and the city since the beginning, which was over a hundred years ago. Bill Gage would like to see that agreement continue and has agreed to take care of all the repairs and maintenance of the rundown shack to keep the partnership alive.

Currently, the boathouse needs a new roof and a complete paint job. The Gage offer seemed generous until committee members ask a few pertinent questions. Hedlund spoke up and agreed the offer seemed nice but why, after all these years of the city sharing the building with Gage rent-free, and the city taking care of the boathouse, why is this being looked at as a very generous offer by Gage Marine? Hedlund wants to cover the city by adding an amendment to Gage Marine’s lease stipulating that the boathouse cannot be used for anything other than what it is now being used for, which is storage for Gage and the city, and a small area for a security guard along with a computer and camera, but nothing commercial. If something commercial or retail goes in, then the entity owning it should pay rent on all space used, just like the other retail outlets utilizing spaces inside the Riviera complex building. Bill Gage displayed some hesitation at this unexpected amendment idea and reassured the committee that utilization of the space for retail sales was not his company’s intention.  The Piers, Harbor, & Lakefront Committee would like to revisit both issues soon and is calling a special meeting to discuss and vote on both
