LIVING HERE
Be a hero and save lives. Schedule an appointment today to donate blood at the City of Lake Geneva Blood Drive.
The Lake Geneva Police Department hosts several blood drives a year and each is important and appreciated, as the need for blood is constant. Blood is essential to patients in surviving surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic illness, and traumatic injuries. Please contribute on Wednesday, June 15th, from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., in the upstairs police training room of Lake Geneva City Hall. While supplies last, each donor will receive a portable Bluetooth speaker. To make an appointment go to https://bit.ly/genevapolice6, or call 877-232-4376.
June is Great Outdoors Month and the Friends of the White River Park encourage everyone to get out and enjoy.
Getting outside has many benefits to everyone’s physical and mental health. Being out in nature has been determined to boost life satisfaction, while soaking up the sun increases vitamin D levels, lowers blood pressure, reduces inflammation, improves eyesight, and improves sleep. Being outdoors burns more calories, relieves stress, anxiety, and depression, and, overall, increases happiness. The Friends of the White River agree about all of this and are excited to offer the Get Outside Walworth County Scavenger Hunt again this year. This is a self-guided event in which participants use the clues offered in the brochure available. To enter and find out more details on how to participate go www.friendsofwhiteriverpark.org or www.hackmatackwr.org.
Traffic Control Devices. T
The city of Lake Geneva is aware that there are many areas where traffic has increased in different areas that warrant at the least the consideration of installing traffic signals. Currently, the equipment to operate the much-needed traffic signal at Edwards Boulevard and Bloomfield Road is being installed and will be up and running before the school year resumes in the fall. Interchange North and Center Street is another one of the locations for consideration. City officials have formally discussed this area in several city meetings and have approved the use of contingency funds to pay for a study to determine if a traffic signal is necessary at this intersection.
The cost would likely be split between Walworth County and the City of Lake Geneva, with the city portion not to exceed $4,000.00. Downtown Lake Geneva intersections are of concern also. The four-way stops at Center Street and Geneva Street and Broad Street and Geneva Street have been an issue. Both of these four-way stops are overlooked by locals and visitors causing frequent close calls and accidents. The Lake Geneva Finance, Licensing, and Regulation Committee recently discussed both areas and the need to make them safer and more visible. The director of public works has recommended blinking lights and illuminated stop signs at both intersections. Mayor Klein has openly shared concerns regarding other areas in need of improvements. The goal is to make traveling the roadways of Lake Geneva smooth and safe and the need for more improvements at several other intersections may need to be discussed and planned in the near future.
