The silence of the clams.
Of course, there are no clams in the Geneva Lake waters, but if there were they would be bi-valving calmly while they reflected on the potential of the new pier the entire Lazzaroni operation wants to install where their current, much shorter pier, extends out into the lake.  The Lazzaroni Harbor is being carved from the Big Foot beach swimming and boating beach at the south end of the stretch of Geneva Lake.

Using the ridiculous riparian (water-related) rules of how inland bodies of Wisconsin water are controlled, or not controlled, has proven to be a continuing mess for everyone living and working around the water.  Nothing has been down about the also silent advancing Starry Stonewort infestation.  Nothing, and don’t give any of us living here the crap about washing boats by owners when they come to the lake or leave it.  It’s never going to happen.  People are not conditioned that way, even when things get serious (how did the mask-wearing work to fight the virus in this state) old social habits and new equally, or more damaging new political habits do not die easily.  Either the lake gets dredged or ten to fifteen years from now it will not be usable anymore.

Yes, it is that serious.

Meanwhile, short-sighted, and downright selfish people are continuing to try to get more money from the lake and more people out in and onto it.  All these specially cared for people who get to own the business operations on the lake’s surfaces and do just about jack to keep and maintain the water in the truly pure condition we’ve all been gifted with.  The communities around the lake don’t even have a clue about how much these operations are making?  How much revenue do Gage Marine, Gordy’s, Elmer’s, and the rest of them make?  That’s all confidential unless you ask them directly.  They will respond with the hoary old “Worse, it’s worse and we’re just about to go out of business,” and that response will always be the same.
