THE BRIGHT SIDE

After a busy weekend in Lake Geneva locals are ready to relax and slow things down a bit.
As tempting as this is to think about it isn’t always possible. City public work crews kick in to clean-up mode. It’s time to manicure the lawns, trim trees, and bushes, groom the beach, and empty heaping garbage cans around the city. Lake Geneva has garbage cans strewn around the lakefront, the parks, and the downtown area, all out of justified need, of course. The problem is that all the trash makes it into the cans.  The Lake Geneva business district thrives on the thousands of visitors who come to the city, and the locals for the most part, who share pride in the fact that the city they call home is so loved by so many, but with this many people visiting Lake Geneva this summer, most are in vacation mode and a scent-marked trail of their visits is often strewn behind them.

The alleyways and parking lots behind some of the drinking establishments have been littered with bottles, cans, and other random trash consistently this summer, and have been discussed at several past city meetings encouraging the business owners to take a more active part in keeping the area clean.  Lake Geneva’s City Administrator is well aware of this (David Nord) as he takes his daily walk around the downtown and lakefront picking up garbage along the way. There have been other reports of citizens pitching in and doing the same. Most recently a lady and her kids were seen cleaning up the White River that flows through the Samuel Donian Wet Land Preserve. This is a common sighting in Lake Geneva, it’s wonderful to see, and reinforces the fact that Lake Geneva is full of so many amazing people. Thank you to all who work constantly to keep the city as clean as possible.
