OUR PLACE

Starbucks main shop on Main and Center Streets in Lake Geneva.
It has never been a very good place.  Oh, the construction is okay, better than the gas station it replaced years ago, but the parking is terrible.  Three or four spaces out front are always full and then potential visitors are kicked all the way to the municipal lots which are not close by.  The management of the place is pretty awful.  Dave could care less about almost everything and all you have to do is go in and encounter him to understand just how bad the employment situation has become following the most major effects of the pandemic.  Starbucks serves bitter coffee.

We, as the Geneva Shore Report, inveterate coffee consumers, know our coffee and Starbucks is not it.  Avant, very close by on Broad Street, has wonderful coffee at a slightly lower price.  Inspiration coffee on Main Street down near Potbellies has wonderful coffee, again, cheaper than the Starbucks stuff.  Finally, the place has an atmosphere that is colder than the driven snow.  It’s just not pleasant there and the fake fireplace does nothing to warm it.  You won’t find the Geneva Shore Report there anymore, as the publisher decided to simply step away from an association of any kind.  The GSR may be cutting edge in reporting, opinion, and presentation, but it’s not bitter…unless you are a big fan of Starbucks.  Starbucks makes locals really appreciate Avant, Inspire Niche, and Still Water in Elkhorn, all the more.

It’s time to celebrate another eventful summer season in Lake Geneva.
The 60th Annual Lake Geneva Jaycees Venetian festival starts Wednesday, August 17th, and runs through the weekend ending on Sunday, August 21st. The Venetian Festival is five days of great family fun. There is something for everyone. The festival will have all the traditional festival foods, rides, games, a beer tent, and live entertainment.

The live music will be a big draw to the festival with some very popular bands Wednesday night (August 17) Bella Cain will take the stage, Thursday will be totally Neon playing, Friday, the Lunch Money Bullies, On Saturday, Terry Bryne will start the afternoon and Too Hype Crew will take the stage for the night show.  Sunday there will be two-afternoon shows by Rock Central and the Big Al Wetzel Band and later Sunday night Dirty Canteen will end the night. All the carnival favorites will be located in Flat Iron Park and Seminary Park. The weekend will include a craft fair with one-hundred-and-ten exhibitors all located in Library Park Saturday and Sunday. The Venetian Festival always ends in a grand way on Sunday with a water ski show, a lighted boat parade, and the best fireworks around.
