Why Larry Larkin runs in direct nearby parallel to that of the Geneva Shore Report.
Larry preceded the GSR by 69 years, as he moved to the lake in 1942 as a little kid.  He kept coming up to the lake and lived through the adventures of the early lakeside part-time dwellers of the time.  In 1980 he decided to live at the lake’s edge full time, raised a family, and schooled his own children here.  None of that, nor the purchase and porting of his wonderful and enormous steamboat (the Normandie) has or had anything to do with the GSR or its formation.

However, Larry expressed a desire for the continuance of the jewel-like nature of Geneva Lake and all efforts to maintain and beautify it even more sound, when spoken or written, just like the mission statement of the Geneva Shore Report.  That such a successful, intelligent, and committed man lives on the lake and is working hard to make it a better place at all times is a pleasure to behold and watch develop.  Larry has never been quizzed by the GSR to see if he sees the same ‘alliance’ of our separate but inadvertently conjoined commitments to both the City of Lake Geneva and the lake itself.  Whatever his feelings or thoughts about the GSR, it really doesn’t matter, as long as he continues to be such a grand and wonderful force for the lake’s survival and beautification.

There are more men and women of Larry Larkin’s ilk living and working around Geneva Lake. The GSR is going to work harder to track them down and learn more about them while the citizens and visitors living and playing around the lake waters still have them to thank and give plaudits to.

Get ready for the 26th Annual Fat Tire Ride for charity.
The event will take place Saturday, September 10, 2022. Lake Geneva and the Geneva Lake itself make this the perfect location for a scenic 21-mile bike ride. The ride unofficially starts at 9 a.m. at Champs Sports Bar & Grill in downtown Lake Geneva or the Ridge just west of the city on Highway 50. The ride is not a race, and the bikes are ridden at the rider’s leisure, visiting several different rest stops along the way. This ride through Lake Geneva, Williams Bay, and Fontana is more than a bike ride, it is a charity event raising money for local non-profits. Rain or shine, the ride will take place, along with a super fun costume contest and the traditional pig roast at the end to celebrate the day.

Register in person at the Ridge on September 9th, from 5:30 p.m., until 7:30 p.m., or the day of the ride on Saturday, September 10th, at Champs and from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The fee is $45.00, and that fee includes a map, raffle tickets, a “T” shirt, and a pig roast ticket. Non-riders can also enjoy the pig roast after the ride at Champs for $10.00. The Fat Tire Ride has been very successful in past years and is always great fun for the riders and spectators alike.
