THE BRIGHT SIDE

The Yerkes Observatory.
The grounds of the observatory in Williams Bay will be the home of another “The World’s Tallest Glass Tree,” presented by Jason Mack of Mack Glass and the Elliot Organization from Champagne, Illinois.  The tallest glass tree so far stands 35 feet in height in Champagne. For three weekends, starting December 2nd through December 18th, the spectacular glass tree will be available for viewing. The tree will be crafted using recycled glass bottles donated by the community. Once glass is crushed and melted the artists will wrap the liquid glass around a thirty-one-foot spinning metal structure, and on the final night of the event four-and-a-half-foot hand blown glass star will be placed on top of the tree.

This is sure to be a magical event. To make this tree possible everyone in attendance is encouraged to donate glass. The event will include live demonstrations of glass blowing, woodworking, and steel sculpting. There will also be a wonderful winter market where you can shop for handmade goods and art, all created by local artists. Yerkes will be conducting its Space and Spaces tour during the festivities. For more information and to purchase tour tickets visit yerkesobservatory.org. Yerkes is expecting to make this an annual event starting in 2022.

The event is free to the public and sure to become a family tradition.  The tree is expected to top 45 feet and be an attraction all its own, although located on Yerkes property.
