WHO’S WHO IN WALWORTH COUNTY
Liz Bloom, owner-operator
Holistic Healing Group,
P.O. Box 383
Williams Bay, WI 53191
Interview by: T. Allen Dyer
Question: Mom or Dad?
Liz Bloom: Mom. She was honest and passionate about life. She was a portrait artist. She encouraged me to do things independently. She taught me self-sufficiency.
Question: Sunlight or Moonlight?
Liz Bloom: Sunlight. It’s the life-force of everything. It’s like my religion. Moonlight is just the sun’s pale reflection after all. It’s the source of ancient religions and of growth. So, you might say I’m a sun worshipper.
Question: Wine or Water?
Liz Bloom: Without water there is no wine.
Question: Children or Pets?
Liz Bloom: Children. Lots of dog owners. Unless you have a farm, hunt, or need to protect livestock… Why breed something, for ownership, when nature is right outside your window with birds, squirrel, deer, rabbits?
Question: Music or Movies?
Liz Bloom: Music. It’s been around longer. It’s not as wasteful to produce. It’s ancient and it’s within us all. I play guitar, I like to sing, and my mother always had music playing on her record player or on the radio. We listened to 60’s and 70’s artists. I did a show at the Williams Bay art fair this past year with other musical moms!
Question: Pagan or Prayer?
Liz Bloom: Probably both. Pagans pray. But it’s more than offering up to mother earth. Prayer is the power of intention. Paganism honors the earth. So, we need both.
Question: Beach or Forest?
Liz Bloom: The indulgence and exhibitionist’s paradise that the beach and sun bring are amazing. But… Both. Because the forest can separate you from the world of mankind, and shelter and hide you from anxieties. And nature is never fickle, selfish, greedy, or thoughtless. Camping is minimalistic and peaceful beyond compare.
Question: Work or Play?
Liz Bloom: Play. But without work you can’t play well. If you’re working toward something, you’re passionate about it, you’re on the right track. I like to help others discover the healing power of whole foods, herbal medicines, healthy diet choices… I like helping others find the power of their own voice and passions and bringing people into a setting to feel good about life. Whether you are a barista, an organic food consultant or teach kids and families about nature and outdoor education, it’s so important to give a child as much time for outdoor play as possible –six hours or more. Turn off the T.V. and the video games. Immerse them because play is our natural state. Children shouldn’t be forced into a desk and suffocated. A child learns best when they are allowed to play! It’s exploration of their surroundings that best educates them. It’s why Scandinavians keep winning all scholarly education metrics. They home school until age 7 or 8 and utilize hands-on, outdoor, games and fun construction tasks.
