LITTLE GEMS
In the Town of Linn, the elections are also coming in April.
Jim Weiss, the town’s most excellent board chairman, is running unopposed again. Wise choice of the public. Maureen Zimmerman is running unopposed as a member of the board, and, as with Jim Weiss, she’s terrific and the public’s choice not to run anyone against her is a wise one. Jim Livingston is the third member of the board up for re-election, and he’s outstanding too, but this time he’s being contested for the seat by another man.
That man is an associate and friend of none other than Chris Jones and Chuck Rohm, who, only two years ago tried to have the town dissolved, which would have been the end of Town of Linn (and all of its saved-up money, as well). That Chris Jones, and her countryside cohorts are coming back is without question, although she’s not running herself. Instead, Chris and company have a shill running against Livingston, a man who’s been just a great member of the board. Livingston holds a master’s degree in engineering, although now retired (what a plus for reviewing building plans submitted to the board) and lives with his wife of many years in Zenda.
Some new Apple devices have a glitch causing false notifications.
If you have the following, it can detect severe car crashes: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (Second Generation) or Apple Watch Ultra. When the feature works properly it’s great but it’s causing problems for officials in Walworth County. Sudden stops during activities like skiing, sledding or operating ATVs activates that motion sensor. Your device will vibrate and give you an audible alert, then call 911 if you don’t dismiss it in 20 seconds. All you need to do is select airplane mode before you take part in a high-impact sport like skiing, however, but most owners forget to do that. Alternatively, the crash-detection feature can also be disabled on an iPhone by following these steps: open the settings app, Tap Emergency SOS, and then turn off ‘Call After Severe Crash.’
The county receives an average of over 4,000 false 911 calls every year and is required by law to follow up with every incident. With only a certain number of dispatchers that can be a tough thing to do and it takes time away from the true urgent calls coming in. Officers must also be involved in making sure a 911 call is valid. Employees of the Mountain Top Ski and Adventure Center at the Grand Geneva are alerting customers to adjust settings before they hit the slopes. In the end, law enforcement says to use your best judgment on when to turn off this questionable feature.
