SURPRISING STUFF
Lake Geneva continues to run in financial surplus, taking in much more money than is budgeted to be spent.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that the city can only continue to take in higher revenue without either spending it or giving it back to the tax-paying public and no decisions have been made about that.
Body cams are coming to Lake Geneva.
It’s been a long time coming but the police department is excited to be going live with their new body cams within the next week or two. Chief Gritzner has been leading this project by researching the best options for the city, reaching out to other departments that utilize the body cams, and applying for grants to help cover the cost. He has done all this with the full support of the police department and police and fire commission because all those involved believe it is best for the police officers and citizens alike. Every full-time uniformed Lake Geneva officer will be equipped with the newest Axon Body Worn 3 Camera. The cameras will be worn by officers and activated during calls and enforcement actions in public. Body cams have been proven to provide an extra layer of safety, strengthen officer performance and accountability, help reduce the number of assaults on our offices, and provide transparency along with many other benefits.
Most evidence collected by officers is now digital so the police department will be using evidence.com, a cloud-based digital evidence platform. This will make the sharing of evidence more streamlined and has offered increased digital evidence accountability. Thank you to Sergeant Hall, Officer Hansen, Officer McNeil, Records Administrator Hinzpeter, and Lieutenant Keller, who have been an integral part of this project and its anticipated implementation. This is a huge win not only for the police department but for residents and visitors as well.
