THE BRIGHT SIDE

Lake Geneva is home to one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful and beloved state parks.
Big Foot State Park is located near the shores of Geneva Lake. The park is a real gem and offers so much to locals and visitors. Not only is it a great piece of nature and beauty, it offers campgrounds, swimming, open picnic areas, playgrounds, but also five miles of hiking trails. The Friends of Big Foot State Park are excited to announce that the 3rd Annual Candlelight Hike is almost here. Saturday, March 11th, from 6 p.m. through 8 p.m., an eight-mile section of the trails will be illuminated for a night hike. During the hike there will be a presentation on owls, which will conclude with a bonfire to warm up. This great fun event is all weather permitting but, so far, the forecast looks good. Wisconsin State Park admission is required and that’s $5.00 per vehicle, unless you have a state park sticker. The event is free, but donations are welcomed and appreciated. For more information call 262-248-2528.

Highway 67 is under construction in downtown Williams Bay.
Wisconsin Highway 67 (Elkhorn Road) is being resurfaced from Geneva Street to Glenwood Drive. The anticipated completion date for the entire project is targeted for the end of summer. The public works department is hoping to have the road open for traffic sometime in May, while the remaining work is being done. The project includes milling of current surfaces, asphalt overlay, pedestrian improvements, sewer and water pipe replacements, culvert pipe replacements, and concrete pavement along curbs and gutters. This one-mile stretch is currently closed to thru traffic and detour signs have been posted all over the place, although it is still difficult in approaching the area from the Lake Geneva area to figure out how to get around it.  Signed detour route utilizes I-43, WIS 50 and County Road F.

Whitewater police and EMS responded to a call from Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park.
A deceased newborn child was discovered Saturday in a field near the Whitewater mobile home park. There is no information on when, why or how long the newborn had been in the field. This is an ongoing investigation, and the police are asking for the public’s help. Whitewater Police are seeking any information that may assist in the investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Whitewater Police Department at 262-473-0555 option #4, or email the Detective Bureau directly at jbrock@whitewater-wi.gov (Detective Justin Brock) and aheilberger@whitewater-wi.gov (Detective Anthony Heilberger).

The Whitewater Police Department also wants to ensure the public is aware of the Safe Haven for Newborns legislation. This law guarantees the rights of parents to relinquish custody of newborn babies, 72 hours old and younger, anonymously and confidentially. Newborns can be relinquished to a law enforcement officer, emergency medical services practitioner, or hospital staff member without fear of legal consequences whatsoever.  It is not known yet whether this newborn was left in the field while still living or not.  Either way this event is a sad tragedy.

Livingston, I presume.
This man is running for a supervisor’s position in Town of Linn.  He’s running for the position he currently holds, after performing wonderfully.  He’s college educated in engineering, which makes him well qualified to study, consider and counsel the other members of the board on building and other technically scientific items.  He’s running against a man who has none of those qualifications.  Jim’s family goes back three generations, living around the edge of Geneva Lake.  There could be no more superlative candidate than this man.  The Geneva Shore Report is not so much endorsing this man as it is revealing who he is to the voting public.
