SURPRISING STUFF

The strangely idiotic but insistently driven parking lot planned for the Lake Geneva library moves forward.
The City of Lake Geneva public library is pushing for a parking lot on the east end of their property. “The library board unanimously approved proceeding with a city capital-funded parking lot on the east send of the library building at our board meeting on February 9, 2023.”

With that being said, the library board approved spending the city’s money to which they have no authority to approve nor spend. Their reasoning for the parking lot is to increase the usage of the library by other Walworth County residents whose library usage (based on how many items are checked out) is reimbursed by the county. This is a huge part of the library’s funding. When the proposed parking lot is not being used by library patrons after hours including on Sundays it would become a paid parking lot. Yes, the library needs better parking but at what costs? Is this really going to be what’s best for the library and city?

The finance, licensing and regulation committee seems to think so and approved a $5,000 engineering study for the proposed parking lot.
