The Lake Geneva Fire Department has outgrown its facility and that’s becoming a problem.
With the growing number of people to serve, and the outdated building the fire department calls home, is becoming harder and harder to provide efficient and skillful service the community deserves. The department is doing great at working with what it has but it is a challenge and the room for risk is greater than the chief would like. The most recent challenge the department is dealing with is about equipment.
The two main apparatuses used for calls have had issues, making the reserve vehicle important. One of the two main vehicles just got back from the shop after a month and may need to go back soon as the computer issue it had may not be completely resolved. The other main truck used for calls is currently in the shop and is not expected to be back for two to four weeks. This leaves the 1996 reserve truck very necessary. This truck is overdue for replacement. The problem with that is there is no room in the garage for it and if a new vehicle is purchased one of the trucks would have to be parked outside, making it harder to keep them running efficiently and repairs will be more frequent.
Right now, replacing fire trucks is a three-year process, once the order is placed it takes that long just to get the vehicle. The chief shared this issue with city officials, along with other concerning issues the fire department facility has. Lake Geneva is a great community and the service departments, including the fire department, are committed to providing exemplary service and will work with what they have but it would be better if the community got fully behind the firefighters and helped order new equipment and a new home.
The Wisconsin and Lake Geneva curse of alcohol consumption.
Last Sunday morning the Geneva Shore Report staff went into a local restaurant at just after nine in the morning to get breakfast. There were fourteen customers in the restaurant when the GSR staff was seated. There were no breakfasts being served to the other fourteen people. Unless you consider alcohol a breakfast food. Beer, wine, Bloody Mary’s, and Mimosas were the rule of the Sunday morning hour. Simple Restaurant, located up on Broad Street, has asked for a liquor license. The new low class Billiards Club to be opened in the Landmark Building on the corner of Main and Broad was unanimously approved for a liquor license, as well.
Nothing against the Billiard Club but ‘billiard clubs’ across the nation have been synonymous with drinking and drinking troubles for many years. If Lake Geneva’s version is something else, then that will be a welcome surprise. What is going on inside the very core of Lake Geneva? When is enough of this kind of thing going to be considered enough? The Axe Throwing nightmare business has a liquor license. How dumb is that? How about a shooting range with a liquor license, as well? Why not?
