LIVING HERE

The Geneva Lake Level Corp representative Larry Larkin gave some updates on the dam repairs.
Dam repairs are to start in October. There has been some concrete spalling and cracking in the jam and spillway going back three years. A temporary fix was done two years ago and was expected to last a year but has lasted two making it overdue for a permanent resolution. The scope of the project is the same as previously expected in the engineering proposal from May 2022. The current status is the plans for the dam were completed June 12th and are just waiting on some structural engineering report on the lagoon walls. A permit was submitted to the DNR, and it has been tentatively approved but needs further clarification. The clarification is expected to be submitted in the next two weeks then the project should be good to go.

The project will go out for BID with the first ad going out on June 29th, July 6th, and July 13th. Pre-Bid meeting is at the dam on Tuesday July 11th, to go over more details of the project. The Bids will be due back July 20th, and if an expected bid is received it will be awarded in August 2023. The work is expected to start between October 1st and the 15th and planned to be completed by Thanksgiving if the weather permits. As of right now the Geneva Lake level Corp does not have firm cost and is relying on the services of Kapur to get an estimate to compare with the incoming bids. Originally, they were hoping to coordinate the work with the city as the Center Street culvert is also in need of repairs, but that has not worked out. The city does not have the same urgency with the culvert work as the GLLC does with the dam work. The other three municipalities around the lake have agreed to participate in the cost and are hoping Lake Geneva will agree to the same. Still to be worked out are the removal of the slips and possible dredging of the lagoon. The accumulated sediment removal is an opportunity to examine the underwater condition of the still way floor. This brings up a lot of questions on the future of the lagoon. The dredging is still not scheduled and may not be for some time as dredging companies are booked up right now.

The city has not voted on the pier removal for this project, but the conversation has taken place at previous city meetings and the committee knows it’s coming. The other big question is what happens after or if approval is given to remove the piers? (Which are in rough shape and a safety hazard) Will the city decide to replace the piers? Will they be the same or a different layout and design? The lagoon, the dam, and the two bridges at Wrigley Drive and Center Street are functional parts of a lake city but also a visually pleasing addition. The next few piers, harbor, and lakefront meetings will be very interesting.

The risen-up Zombies of the Dead are hereby revealed by their own written identification and expression.
These are the supposed upstanding citizens of Lake Geneva who decided to participate in this nasty attempt to shame one of the city alderperson’s out of here position and quite possibly out of town if not worse. Linda Frame is a new alderperson, working hard at the job, and should be receiving assistance and she learns the rope.  She should not be handed the rope with a noose on the end of it.  That these fifteen have chosen to participate in such a rotten political move comes as a shock to the staff of the GSR, as many of them give every appearance of being decent human beings.

Here are the Zombies:

Patricia Matt, Albert Durkin, Lillian Doody, Holly Smith, Loretta Karkoff, Ron Geman, Marie Andrade, Kathrine Lynin, Thomas Miller, David Mahoney, Richard Mienel, John Baldwin, Nancy Anderson, Mark Zwiebel and Janice Hagerman.  If you encounter one of these people out in the community, you might just lightly ask them if they are one of the Zombies.
