THE BRIGHT SIDE

As a part of its community outreach and crime prevention the Lake Geneva Police Department is looking to coordinate Neighborhood Watch groups.
Back in the early 2000’s the city had two active neighborhood watch groups which at that time focused mainly on the graffiti. The groups had an impact and graffiti substantially declined. Since then, the groups fizzled out and the need to enact more groups is now necessary. The police need the community’s help. The public does not always want to bother the police or feel silly calling over what may seem like little issues, when in fact the police appreciate the calls as the public is extra eyes and ears for the police and help them create a safer community. Neighborhood watch groups would meet regularly and would have a dedicated team leader to help coordinate these meetings.

The meetings would randomly have input, and presentations form a police officer, detective, and or others to help educate the group members on what is going on, what to watch for, and how to handle situations. The police will be advertising for this initiative through social media and any other forms of advertising available. Team leaders will help coordinate the groups, share information, and spread awareness. The teams will initially be divided by aldermanic districts. The police department is excited to get the groups established.

If you are interested in being a neighborhood watch coordinator, contact Lt. Seth Keller at 262-248-4455. The Neighborhood Watch teams are appreciated and valuable to the department, educational, community building, and fun.
