The City of Delavan Police Department received a welfare check request from Hartland Wisconsin Police Department on Sunday afternoon.
Hartland Police Department requested the City of Delavan Police Department check the welfare of Aaron Wigmancall, a 41-year-old male. That call was placed around 4:18 p.m. According to Hartland Police Department, Wigman was sending harassing messages to family members that if they continued going to their mother’s home, he would “beat them up”. Family members were concerned he may be intoxicated. Officers responded to an armed barricaded subject at a Super 8, near Borg and Phoenix around 4:20 p.m. Officers attempted to contact Wigman, who was non-compliant with requests to open the door.

During the initial contact, Officers could hear items being thrown around the motel room, and Wigman making threatening comments, specifically “Goddam right I am armed”. At that point the motel was evacuated. Wigman implied there was another person in the room, which later was found not to be true. Walworth County SWAT took over the situation at approximately 4:50pm. Backup from all around the area as far as Milwaukee came to assist in the tactical situation. The strip mall across the street, in which Piggly Wiggly is located, was evacuated, along with Fleet Farm and all the surrounding businesses. The surrounding area was on lockdown as roads were barricaded until about midnight. Emergency personnel utilized drones, K-9 units, and reached out to the victim’s family for help. They reached out to his mother for help which eventually led to his surrender around 11: 15 p.m.

A search warrant was applied for, granted, and served. Wigman was evaluated by Walworth County Department of Human Services Crisis staff. Wigman is confined at the Walworth County Jail. The incident ended without anyone being hurt and all charges are being referred to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.
