The Green Bay Packers played their first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday.
Jordan Love threw his first touchdown pass of the year on his second drive of the Green Bay Packers’ game Friday night. Love made a nice throw. Doubs made the catch, but he could have made a better catch, if he didn’t have to deal with heavy coverage on the play. Love and the Packers’ offense looked out of sync on the first drive, as they stalled after converting one first down. Now the Packers can see if the controversial Jordan Love draft pick back in 2020 was worth it. Love is an unknown. He has one career start and 83 NFL passes. His 83 passes really haven’t revealed who he is as an NFL quarterback. We’ll see what it’s like for Love, who hasn’t played much meaningful football since 2019 at Utah State.
The message from the Packers’ front office, coaches and players has been consistent: They’re excited to see Love play. Last season was a confusing mess. It seemed like the Packers underachieved. Hopefully Love can lead the team to the playoffs this season as he shows the world what he’s capable and made of. Either way, it will be an interesting transition season in Green Bay. Maybe it won’t lead to another era of Hall of Fame quarterback play, but it was definitely time to try something new. Following Brett Favre’s retreat from Packer play before him, Aaron Rodgers is ready to finish his career, sooner or later, with the New York Jets.
