Discussing drought while it rains.
Drought conditions in parts of southern Wisconsin have continued to worsen, with some spots now in the most intense category on the U.S. Drought Monitor classification scale. Statewide, 84.5% of Wisconsin’s land area and 4.2 million of the state’s residents are seeing some level of drought. 90-day rainfall deficits are 6 to 8 inches in the extreme and exceptional drought areas and 3 to 6 inches in the severe drought area. From August 30 through September 5, little, if any, rain fell in southern Wisconsin.
There have been many agricultural impacts. Corn stalks in some places range from 2 to 5 feet tall. The stalks typically are about 8 feet tall. The ears of corn on these stalks are reported to be short. Some soybean pods were aborted. Many hay fields are either not growing or they are much shorter than normal. Due to this, some farmers have had to start to buy hay. This has increased the demand for hay and as a result, hay prices have dramatically increased this summer. There are special programs to help farmers in need during this difficult time, but not much in the way of help for the people paying the inflated prices.
Great bulldogs looking for a home.
The Geneva Shore Report received this email last week and are running it free of charge, of course, as we support all dogs, cats and more of the animal world. “My name is Frank Bryant and I wish to place a free to a good home pet ad in your newspaper both online and in print for just 2 weeks. Here is the ad copy; 2 AKC registered English Bulldogs for free…., if interested please contact; ffbryant11@gmail.com. Since I’m giving the puppies, Jermaine and Vickee, free to a good home. I wish to know if this will be a free ad.”
