OUR PLACE
Trick or Treat.
The City of Lake Geneva tosses and turns with what to do with the day and hours of trick or treating. Well, please be aware that the city has no ordinance with respect to trick or treating. The city only advises and recommends hours and the night of trick or treating. Kids can go out and trick or treat on any night they might feel like it. If the city changes trick or treating recommended times to occur only on Sunday night before Halloween, the kids can all thumb their noses and trick or treat on Halloween night if they so desire.
When the publisher of this newspaper, as old as he is, was a child he and his friends went out in small packs on the night before Halloween…called then All Hallows’ Eve, there really existed ‘tricks’ for houses that would turn out their lights if you rang the doorbell. The trick of that time was to wax the windows on the front of the house. Wax is hard to get off windows but damages nothing. Parents did not go out trick or treating. All candies, cookies and bakery were accepted by the kids without fears of poisoning or any of that. And there was none. Kids could probably be better served by kicking their parents out of the whole deal and going a bit retro instead of this antiseptic non hallows’ eve of these modern times.
Lake Geneva Badger Homecoming is more than just the big football game.
The event is a week of fun activities that involves all the district schools. Starting on Monday, October 9th, through Friday October 13th, Lake Geneva High School, Middle School, Central Denison, Eastview, and Star Central will participate in Spirit Week to show school spirit, support each other, the football team, and have fun.
- Monday will be Decades Day, so the kids and staff can dress in their best 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s outfit.
- Tuesday is Barbie and Ken Day, or just wear pink day.
- Wednesday is colors day, and each grade will have a designated color and will be encouraged to wear as much of that color as they can.
- Thursday is ‘Blast Into the Future Day.’ The idea is to get the kids to think ahead and dream and dress as their future self, even if only in fantasy.
- Friday is all about the big game and school spirit.
Every grade will dress in the Lake Geneva School gear and colors. The Homecoming Parade is on Friday, October 13th, at 4:45 p.m. The parade will start at Central Denison Elementary School. The parade will travel down Wisconsin Street, turn right on Broad Street, then onto Main Street, turn right on Cook Street and end the route where it started at Central Denison.
The night doesn’t end there. The big Homecoming Football Game kicks off at 7 p.m. The Badger Football team is on a winning streak and intends to keep it winning streak going through Homecoming. The high school students will be celebrating the week long events and fun with the traditional and formal Homecoming Dance to be held on Saturday, October 14th. Go Badgers!
