The third time was very much the charm to keep the Milwaukee Brewers in Wisconsin until at least 2050.
The Wisconsin state Senate approved a plan to spend more than half a billion dollars of public funds to help the Milwaukee Brewers repair that stadium. Evers’ spokesperson, Britt Cudaback, said Monday that the governor supports the Senate version of the package. The Wisconsin Congress amended the plan again Tuesday, this time during floor debate, to incrementally raise the $2 ticket surcharge to $4 and the luxury suite ticket surcharge from $8 to $10 by 2050. The revenue would be used to reduce the state contribution. The Brewers will pay $150 million in the form of increased rent payments ($100 million) and ballpark improvements ($50 million) that don’t require any district funding. The stadium may look the same when the redevelopment is done but there’s tons of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that had to be fixed.
Today, the typical Brewers game sees six to eight trucks with broadcast networks for both teams and sometimes the MLB Network. The aging equipment, which has a thirty-year life span, is breaking down and it’s challenging to find replacement parts. The concrete plaza has spots that are buckling. Exposed steel needs to be coated throughout the stadium. That’s just some of the minor work that needs to be done. Lawmakers are requiring the team to feature a discount day for state residents for one home game per month from April to September. It won’t be long before work begins. The Brewers finished the 2023 season with a wild-card series appearance that they ultimately lost 2-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Green Bay Packers are the NFL’s youngest team.
The Packers entered Sunday’s contest against the Los Angeles Chargers just 1-4 in games decided by four points, or less. On Sunday, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love hit Romeo Doubs with a 24-yard touchdown pass with 2 ½ minutes left, and that proved to be the difference in a 23-20 Packers win. With Green Bay down to one healthy running back, the first-year starting quarterback responded with the best performance of his young career. Love threw for 322 yards and found Romeo Doubs for a 24-yard touchdown with 2:33 left. Love went 27 of 40 and became the first Packer to throw for more than 300 yards since Aaron Rodgers had a 341-yard day against the Chicago Bears on Dec. 12, 2021. Love’s greatest touchdown pass was an 11-yarder to Christian Watson with 4 seconds left in the third quarter.
