OUR PLACE

The traffic signal study initiated by the owner of the Geneva Lanes Bowling Alley will likely get the support of the city.
Monday night the city council voted yes to sharing in the expense of the study. The city has committed to paying $2.000 of the total cost. The area in question is on the east side of HWY 50 or Main Street. This stretch of roadway gets very backed up on most summer weekends especially when there is an event or holiday. The stand-still traffic heading west on Main Street into town can be backed up by the traffic lights at Edwards Boulevard and HWY 50. The traffic is expected to just get worse as more people are considering Lake Geneva a destination and development continues.

The recent purchase by the city of the Hillmoor property has the potential, if developed at all, to increase the traffic in this area substantially. As of right now, there are no definite plans for the property but all ideas being researched by the Hillmoor ad hoc committee are all game changers. The property could potentially be a grand park, golf course, or amphitheater, and the YMCA wants to move there.  Any of those eventualities could bring many vehicles to Hillmoor’s entrance. That current entrance is located in the middle of the section of the roadway being studied for a potential future traffic signal. Many residents are in favor of the traffic signal now even without any changes to Hillmoor. Residents have learned how and when to maneuver around or through this location but are hoping in the future it can be traveled without as much frustration as it does at times now. Most city council members believe a $2,000 bill is worth the outcome. If the study is done promptly and finds a traffic signal is warranted it could potentially be included in the DOT’s Main Street and HWY 50 project in 2027-28 saving the city a lot of money.

The elections are coming, and many are running.
Todd Krause is all in, running for Mayor Mayor’s spot, and she’s running too.  Sheri Ames is running against Joanie the Diner, while Pam is running against Dunn.  Sarah Hill is back, working away at Grand Geneva so successfully, and running for an alderperson’s position.  Only January 3rd’s turning in of signed and verified voter signatures will convert the ‘rumor mill’ written here into a factual recording of just what everyone is likely to see in February.
