LIVING HERE
The J1 problem.
The Grand Geneva has been employing so many locals, relocating individuals, and international students on J1 internships or work and travel visas. To support and balance the work life of team members Grand Geneva has begun the development of a new employee residential facility. The work is in progress right now and is located on Sheridan Springs Road right across the street from the employee parking lot entrance of the property. This project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2024. The building will house one hundred and seventy-two employees and will feature a collection of four-bedroom units, each will have a living space, kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms.
There will be community spaces with a laundry area and convenience fitness area, lounge space, and outdoor recreation. This new housing facility will benefit so many students from university students right here in the US to students from other countries, Schools from other countries have had contracts throughout the years with Grand Geneva providing students with great opportunities for students to learn and work. The facility will also house managers in training and employees relocating to the area while in transition.
What’s the downside of both the J1 and J2 program?
The recipients of these jobs, along with room, board, and travel pay, are exempt from FICA taxes (Which saves the employers an overhead cost). Almost all are non-resident aliens. They must attend college, but those rules have fallen through the floor with the advent of home study programs. Finally, you can’t forget most young people in the area going to work at the Grand Geneva. They cannot compete for those jobs, as their government of origin and the U.S. government also finance the company sponsoring the workers.
