LITTLE GEMS

The Delavan train show is coming Saturday, March 11th, and Sunday, March 12th.
Visitors can begin the show at the Delavan American Legion Hall where they will receive a map and train “ticket” to be punched at each location they visit. This show features interactive exhibits and operating layouts on multiple scales. Kids of all ages can operate accessories, complete scavenger hunts to find characters and details on layouts, and even run the trains. As always, the Delavan Train Show is free admission and offers free parking in the downtown area.

The Delavan Train Show enables visitors to see some of the most exciting layouts from the “big” shows as well as beautiful layouts from local hobbyists. Win prizes throughout the weekend during raffles and giveaways from local businesses. Layouts will be displayed at the Legion Hall and approximately 12 other downtown buildings. Ride the Trolley between locations which is fun for the whole family. Don’t forget to snack on yummy foods from Food Trucks and Restaurants.

The hours are Saturday, March 12th from 9 am – 4 pm and Sunday, March 13th: 9 am – 2 pm.  Maybe the neatest thing about the show is the people who put it on and the people who come to visit.  For unknown reasons, they all seem to be terrific and a wonder to meet and talk to.

An Elkhorn bar opened for the first time on Friday following a double homicide that shook the community at its foundation.
Investigators said a gunman shot and killed Gina and Emerson Weingart inside Sports Page Barr just after midnight on Feb. 1. “I was here before they put up the police tape,” Sports Page co-owner Jordan Barr said. Barr shared that he quickly grew close to the Weingarts. They played in a dart league weekly. Barr said the last month has come with a range of emotions. Barr and his father debated reopening after losing Gina and Emerson. Barr kept his business, located near Wisconsin and Geneva streets in the heart of Elkhorn, closed the entire month of February but made the difficult decision to reopen on Friday, March 1st.

As the business reopened, Barr expressed his deep gratitude for the Elkhorn community’s outpouring of support in offering condolences and coordinating fundraisers. As the Sports Page Barr family tries to move forward, a card from the Weingarts’ funeral has a forever spot at the bar. While still reeling from the unimaginable, Barr said he’s grateful for the backing he’s received from tight-knit Elkhorn.
