THE BRIGHT SIDE
Mother Nature is here to play.
Geneva Lake experienced a week of record-setting highs, storms, snow, and extreme temperature drops all within a twenty-four-period time frame. Tuesday, March 27th was a historic day and a wild weather ride. It was the warmest February day on record with a high temperature of 74 degrees. This warmth led to severe storms that evening with lightning rapidly striking down, thunder shaking homes, and rain pouring down. There was even a tornado watch issued for most of the evening. It was quite the show that Mother Nature decided to put on. A cold front swept southeast Wisconsin by midnight, sending temperatures on a free fall.
The rain turned into snow showers that led to slick road conditions with certain areas icing over. The week saw a fifty-plus-degree temperature drop which is the largest drop in southeastern Wisconsin history. This past weekend began the month of March, and it broke a record on Sunday for the record high on March 3rd with 71 degrees. The average high at the beginning of March is 40 degrees so that’s a thirty-degree difference and it definitely showed. Even with the strong winds the sun felt warm, and everyone was out enjoying the summer-like weather.
There’s a fair chance that temperatures could rise above normal in June, July, and August, and even into early fall, climate scientists say.
There’s been talk.
It seems that effective on January 3rd of 2024, the City of Lake Geneva appointed, or hired, a Parks Superintendent. Samantha Inko is the person who got this position. It includes around $83,000 a year in salary, ten holidays off, 64 hours of ‘personal time,’ the normal retirement package as well as full insurance (medical, life, dental, and disability) and investment account advantages. It was rumored that Samantha wasn’t qualified for the job, but in reality, she holds a master’s degree in recreation from the university located in Williams Bay, which means she’s fully qualified. She is to report to Tom Earle, the director of public works for Lake Geneva. He has an advanced degree in, well, life experience.
The fact that her boyfriend is Sam who runs the Riviera is a mere coincidence as well as the fact that they are both called Sam. Life in American small towns is always filled with entertaining stuff and this appointment should give some support to that statement, as well as a few smiles and chuckles from all readers.
Place of the Week

The Rabbit Hole at 264 Center Street is open. A little something for everyone. It has vintage, home decor, and boutique items.
