LITTLE GEMS

The Former mayor is pissed off to the point where bitter vitriol is coming pouring from her mouth.
All that means is that the Former mayor loved the job, wanted to stay in the job and by such an overwhelming defeat is hurt to the core over losing it.  There’s little doubt, in almost all political circumstances, that she will view the fault of losing as anything to do whether it was deserved or not. She showed up to the chair the ad hoc Hillmoor committee after Todd Krause was sworn in.  She moved to pass a rule that she would remain as chair of the committee (as well as still a member of it) for six months to come.

Todd Krause was at the meeting in person, however, and he went right at her.  He told her that she’d lost and that she would not be staying on as chair of any committee or as a member of any committee during his administration.  Todd is a tough cookie.  He spoke nicely to the Former, but she didn’t reply that way.  Todd refused to confirm a quote of exactly what she said back made by others, so the GSR won’t print it.  The Former Mayor then went to the city attorney to see if she could legally stay on the committee.  The city attorney said she could, unless the new mayor dismisses the committee reforms it, and then reappoints others to serve on it (in which case the Former Mayor wouldn’t be on it, of course).  Did the Former give up?

That’s not likely and the GSR expects to hear and observe more harsh attacks by this woman as it will take time for her to come to the final understanding that she got her butt whooped, and her gathering of nodding sycophants right along with her.

Farmer’s Market season is almost here!
Lake Geneva Farmer’s Market starts Thursday, May 2nd, and runs through the end of October. The Lake Geneva Market is one of the best. The Horticultural Hall sets the scene with vendors lined up along Broad Street and turn at both Geneva Street and Wisconsin Street. The vendors come every year and the marketgoers look forward to the fresh wonderful products they provide. Lake Geneva is a favorite summer season destination, and the farmers market is one of the consistent events visitors look forward to too. With this market and so many others in the area opening, spring is definitely here.

The really terrific Sheriff’s personnel up at Walworth County.
A few months ago, the GSR reported on how interesting and truly amazing the anti-alcohol classes are that the department offers through Gateway.  This week our reporters got the opportunity to get inside the electronic monitoring facility that replaced the Humber work-release program of old.  The equipment is state of the art, with released individuals wearing GPS monitors and carrying constantly monitored breathalyzers and such, but it is the personnel, once again, as in the teaching of the classes that struck our reporters the most. The people are more like caring therapists to their charges than jailors of days gone by.

No put-downs and bad treatment at all, and their success with the program shows the result of a near down and out group of offenders who respond extremely successfully.  Recidivism is very low in the program and violations are few and far between.  The personnel help make the people involved and back out in the community want to stay out in the community and be productive.  They are also saving everyone in the county millions of dollars by not having to keep these mostly non-violent offenders in jail cells.  Nice work Walworth County system of applied justice and social care.
