The Milwaukee Brewers.
The team is 24-15 with a one-and-a-half game lead over the Craig Counsell-led Chicago Cubs after their 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night. No one outside of the Brewers’ organization or fan base believed that Milwaukee would be competing for the top spot in the National League Central Division, but the Brewers are tough and have earned their spot at the top respectively. Milwaukee’s starting rotation has been riddled with injuries and 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes was traded in the offseason causing some concern for fans and the team alike.
Key offensive players like Christian Yelich, William Contreras, and Willy Adames are all contributing like they are expected, performing at their best, with the help of other team members bringing the team to the number one spot. Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently published an article in which he named one player at each position that he feels has broken out this year. At second base, he selected Brewers second baseman Brice Turang.
Back in mid-March, Brewer’s manager Pat Murphy, when asked about Turang, was quoted as saying: “I’m expecting this kid to take a quantum leap.” The sophomore second baseman is hitting .302/.368/.426 with two home runs and 14 RBI. He has also hit 10 doubles already this season after hitting nine in 137 games played last year. One of the biggest indicators that Turang’s early success is no fluke is the number of times he has struck out this season compared to the number of times he has walked. Last season, he struck out 94 times and walked just 38 times this season, the much-improved hitter has struck out just 19 times in 37 games and has walked 13 times. Brice Turang’s remarkable progress at the plate and on the base paths has been instrumental in the Milwaukee Brewers’ surprising lead in the National League Central Division, solidifying his position as a key player to watch in the league. As Turang continues to showcase his improved performance, the focus will be on his consistency and ability to sustain his breakout throughout the season.
The Green Bay Packers.
Emphasis on green, or the Boys Club of Green Bay, are getting ready to get ready for the coming season. Jordon Love will not be spending all his time looking for receivers, what with the surprising hire of a new quarterback in the recent draft. He’ll be playing looking over his shoulder. At the end of last season, as Love truly came into his own, the Packer management swore allegiance to him for the future. Green Bay likely has a much different definition for the word allegiance when it comes to professional football. Don’t get hurt. Don’t have a bad day or two. Don’t ever believe that you are truly the one. That’s a series of silent quarterback mantras that should be running through any Packer quarterback’s mind at all times.
The Milwaukee Bucs. Done for the season and a team is likely in search of a real coach again.
