LITTLE GEMS

The Oxygen Air Bar is ‘open’ if that’s what you want to call it!
Avant Coffee and Bike Shop is gone, never to return as far as the investigative staff of the GSR knows.  The O2 Lounge closed over at the building across the street from the Post Office on Main Street and moved into the old Avant space.  The downstairs is like before in many ways, although much sparser in items to purchase and seating.  Coffee will be served, along with a million other exotic non-alcoholic beverages by next week.  It will be good to have three regular coffee shops in Lake Geneva again, not that Inspiration and Starbucks don’t do a pretty great job.

The new manager, Elli, has taken over at Starbucks, incidentally, and she is terrific. The GSR staff made a live video covering the entire inside of the new place.  The strange manager of the lounge sent us an email. Here’s the email from Lindsay Guerrero following the publishing of our video: “I would appreciate permission and an announced visit next time you visit O2 Lounge.

It would appear, as there will be no further ‘visits’ to the place by the GSR staff, that the old warm and friendly atmosphere of that space (building owned by the very warm and friendly Kevin of The Treasure Hut) has gone as cold as the pure air purported to be oxygen for big money.  What a shame.  Go in and have a weirdly interesting (although expensive) experience, like our staff did.

Here’s a short comment by ‘How Science Works’: “So what would happen if you breathed in 100 percent oxygen? Nothing good, that’s for sure. Breathing 100 percent oxygen at normal pressure can cause acute oxygen poisoning, which can lead to all sorts of symptoms, including fluid in the lungs, hyperventilation, or labored breathing.” Go in and get on an oxygen machine at your own risk.

Short-term traffic blues.
On Saturday night a short-term rental group of young people located in Como threw a big party.  Hundreds ended up coming to that party. The traffic snarl in and around Como called for a general call for help by the Town of Geneva Police Department. The snarl of traffic with people unable to move their cars for hours brought Como to a standstill.

What’s coming for Lake Geneva this summer as the rental owners of the residences cannot control what happens on those rental properties unless they are on-site at those properties. Bed and Breakfast businesses became heavily regulated because of this problem in the past so B&Bs all must have in-residence owners or managers. The short-term rental situation, going around the regulations, is sort of like how Uber took over the taxi business.

What does this mean for Lake Geneva?  An interesting summer, to say the least.
