SURPRISING STUFF

If you are looking for an exciting fun night out with the family head on over to the Walworth County Fair Grounds.
This year’s National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6th from 4:30 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. National Night Out is an annual event that most municipalities around the nation participate in but none do it quite like Walworth County.

Instead of having individual events or open houses the service departments of Walworth County decided to do it together in one location. This displays how well the service departments in Walworth County work together and the importance of bringing everyone to see firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and so many more service people who serve in a fun nonintimidating setting. Vehicles, tools, and equipment used by the different departments will be displayed and discussed with many interactive activities. Join local law enforcement, fire departments, EMTs, and many local organizations and businesses for this is a free family event full of activities, fun, food, and fireworks.

Surprising stuff, the phrase used as a header in the GSR, does not truly describe what’s happened to the national political scene since the convention.
Lake Geneva profited greatly from the convention taking place in Milwaukee only two weeks ago. That convention received a boost for its candidate because of an assassination attempt foiled by truly bad shooting, not the Secret Service. In any event, during and following the convention it appeared that the candidate of republican choice would be likely to win the coming presidential election without too much trouble. Then, as the Republicans were demanding, the current president pulled out of the race.  Who could have predicted what happened next?

The quiet, rarely-heard, Vice President stepped in as the recommended candidate to replace the president in November on the ballot…and then the sky blew off!  Support for her, coming from God Knows Where (and everywhere) poured in and that continues. The two weeks ago likely winner, ahead in all polls at the time, is now running almost ten points behind, and that’s using Fox-derived polls, just like that! No matter what happens, as these last three months play out, the race has turned into a real race and the ho-hum coming election is going to be anything but that. The public has come to see the reporting of national news as a form of entertainment (Fox News, in court, conceded that it’s not a news organization but an entertainment one), and is now getting just that sort of titillation from tuning in to the cable and network news stations or going regularly onto the Internet.
