THE BRIGHT SIDE
Sweater weather is here and with that comes all kinds of October events including spooky Halloween fun.
Lake Geneva just finished up with its annual Oktoberfest weekend but there is more fun to come. Pearce’s Farm Stand located on Walworth Road in Walworth has fall fun every day. The farm stand grounds are filled with haybales, corn stalks, photo ops, and of course pumpkins. Pearce’s is a favorite stop for so many, but fall is when it shows its vibrant colors. The corn maze is an event all in itself and very popular. Make sure to stop in, pick up some pumpkins, mums, produce and soak in the season before it closes for the season. Of course, with fall and Halloween there needs to be something spooky going on and Dan Patch Stables has it covered.
Every year Dan Patch Stables, located at the Grand Geneva grounds, has a haunted barn and its haunted hayrides for the whole family. There isn’t much time left for the spooky-themed hayrides and barn so add Dan Patch Stables to your plans and reserve a spot ASAP. The hayrides are offered Friday through Sunday and there are different times available so make sure to call 262-215-5303 or check it out online at danpatchstables.com.
The big Lake City Social Trunk or Treat event will coincide with Lake Geneva trick or treating this Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. Lake City Social does a great job with this event filling its back parking lot with so many vendors who go all out with costumes and decorations. Candy is passed out at each stand along with other fun little treats. There is a big tent in the center with more Halloween fun. Music is playing, some live entertainment from local performers, and of course some festive treats for the adults are available. Trick or Treating is sometimes referred to as the grand finale of the fall season. The City of Lake Geneva will have its Trick or Treating this Sunday, October 27th from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Patients who have liens put on their property by Aurora Health because of unpaid medical bills will soon see some relief.
Aurora Health Care’s parent company will cancel all judgment liens placed on homes and real estate to collect unpaid medical bills and forgive outstanding debts associated with them. Advocate Health, the nation’s third-largest non-profit health system, said this move is part of a multi-year initiative to overhaul the system’s approach to medical debt, including Advocate Health’s announcement in 2022 that it would no longer file lawsuits nor seek liens or judgments as part of its collection efforts.
The organization has also implemented other system-wide policy changes resulting in it being a leader in the effort to solve the nation’s medical debt crisis. They stopped reporting delinquent medical debt to credit agencies, increased the charity care threshold to 300% of the federal poverty level, and expanded their automatic financial assistance program for low-income and uninsured patients. Advocate Health notes the process of canceling liens will take time to complete, as it requires collaboration with attorneys and courts in each jurisdiction.
Advocate Health operates under three primary care delivery brands: Advocate Health Care in Illinois; Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Alabama; and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. The health system will proactively reach out to individuals whose liens are being canceled, beginning with the oldest cases.
