OUR PLACE

Hillmoor Commission is in the process of being formed.
At the last city council meeting the first and second reading of the ordinance were approved, and the Hillmoor Commission now has the green light to go ahead and get it done. The public is getting impatient and is ready for something to get done at the 6-million-dollar property. Since the city purchased Hillmoor there has been limited movement on the property. Most of the improvements are clearing the buckthorn and clearing of the old golf cart paths that have been done by volunteers.

The Lake Geneva Public Works Department has also been a huge help with removing some substantial safety concerns and helping with the removal of debris. The property was recently opened to the public with a few trails open, a small parking area, and a picnic table, other than that not much else has happened.

Mayor Krause would like to see more happening on the grounds. The city council all agreed, and the next step is to get a commission together to come up with a master plan and determine how it will be done. The composition of the Hillmoor Commission will be made up of nine members. Seven of the nine will be residents of the city, the mayor, and one alderperson. The mayor will be the chair and him, and the alderperson will be non-voting members. The mayor will appoint the members, and they will be approved by the council.

The Hillmoor Commission will be considered an advisory commission and will recommend ideas and plans to the city council. The goal is to get strategic and master planning for the property. There also needs to be evaluations of approved plans and ways to implement the projects. This is a great step in the right direction. Let’s hope the commission doesn’t drag their feet and do a lot of talking and not enough decision-making and doing. Whoever is going to be appointed to the commission is a big deal and Todd Krause will be closely watched for who he recommends.

Also, a commission has considerably more power than a mere committee. There could be some real fireworks coming out of this commission and the YMCA would seem to be the major ignition point.
