SOME THINGS ARE JUST SWELL

The Lake Geneva City Council held its reorganization meeting last week. Alderpersons were sworn in and voted for the city council president and vice president. Like all city council meetings, it started with the pledge of allegiance and prayer with Pastor Sir Vandenberg from the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Alderpersons were sworn in and signed the oath of office. Incumbents serving another term include Linda Frame, District Two Alderperson. Frame is a lifelong member of the Lake Geneva Community who loves this city and Geneva Lake. Frame is enthusiastic about serving the community and enjoys the opportunity to do so.

District one had two persons run for alderperson for the first time, with Janelle Powers winning against Robert Croce in the spring election. Powers has been a passionate member of the Lake Geneva community and is very excited to serve the community. Brian Smith, District Three Alderperson, is a newbie to the council, winning the seat running unopposed as incumbent Alderperson Esposito did not choose to run again in the spring election. Smith and his wife have been residents in Lake Geneva for close to six years, but have lived around Lake Geneva for many years. Smith is excited to get to work.

Kathy Stoodley District Four Alderperson, was already sitting on the council as an interim for Ken Howell, who was unable to fulfill his term due to medical issues and ran unopposed. Stoodley is thankful for the votes and the position. Stoodley has been a part of the community for approximately thirty years and feels lucky to have had the opportunity to give her a hands-on internship. City Council President and Vice President were voted on with paper ballots. The mayor declined his right to vote on these positions, leaving it up to the alderpersons. Alderperson Yager nominated the current city council president, Mary Jo Fesenmaier, for president, and Alderperson Joel Hoiland nominated himself for president. The paper ballots were collected and read by the city clerk, with Fesenmaier prevailing as the City Council President.

Alderperson Fesenmaier nominated Alderperson Yager for vice president, and Alderperson Hoiland nominated Alderperson Stoodley for vice president. Again, paper ballots were collected, and the new vice president is Alderperson Cindy Yager. Congratulations to all the elected officials, and thank you for choosing to serve the community. With the new faces, fresh ideas, and energy they bring, this is sure to make this a productive and successful year in Lake Geneva.

A new city administrator will begin working soon, and that finality was much needed as the search took way too long, but the results should prove well worth it.  The current city management, both elected and appointed, is weathering these often confusing and sometimes astounding times. The channel 25 special expensive piece to make the whole television channel work should come alive in May, and that will be great news for everyone. The piers to be reinstalled down at the lagoon are once more on hold, some of that reason being the current instability of the national government, deep stock market disappointments, and more.  The referendum for the schools to weather on through attacks on the way the entire schooling system is operating nationwide passed overwhelmingly, as the public came to see that the last thing Lake Geneva needs to do these days is lose any of its schools.

The day after Easter was punctuated by the death of Pope Francis, which is the only rather buffering news reaching all of us who are Christians…and even many others.
