OUR PLACE
Strawberry season is here.
Strawberry picking season in Wisconsin typically runs from mid-June to the Fourth of July, but it can vary depending on the weather. Factors that can affect the season include how quickly the berries ripen, the size of the crop, and whether the fields are too muddy to pick in. The Apple Barn on Sugar Creek Road in Elkhorn offers picking your strawberries along with call-in orders for pickup. Thompson Farm in Bristol also offers terrific strawberry picking. They also offer ways to save. Pick More, Save More! Pick 5 baskets and get your 6th basket free. Bring Your Basket Back! Reuse one of our baskets and get 50 cents off your purchase.
Some helpful tips before you go picking: strawberries don’t ripen after they’re picked, so make sure you’re picking fully ripe, deep red berries for the best flavor. Strawberries are safe to sample right off the plant, so you can sample to make sure you pick the tastiest ones.
Some excellent Beatles song lyrics apply here: “Strawberry fields forever!”
