WHAT WE HAVE HERE…
” is a failure in communication.” That expression came from the screenplay for the movie called Cool Hand Luke, and it has become one that describes people’s sometimes inability to see the logic of what’s facing them. Systems of government, or channeling and controlling the lives of others in large numbers (official governmental offices, religious organizations, and the media are all forms of that control), are having more trouble than ever at performing the communication necessary to have peaceful control and pacification of the large groups of humans, as is called for.
Great advances in technology seem to have made such control more complex and difficult, not less, particularly when the large groups of people to be controlled fail to get the expected information or the media expected to provide it to them. Channel 25 is not live yet. Why?
There has been one story after another about why it’s just not possible to get Spectrum to hook up the audio so that meetings can be seen and heard on any basis…and then the alternate form of communication called ‘streaming’ fails for no explainable reason as well. Governmental leadership has never been about having the masses of humans make or be included in leadership decisions.
Representatives are hired, appointed, or elected to make the decisions, while the masses of people only get to approve or complain about those decisions.
And so, it is with Channel 25. Miscommunication also exists all over the place. The State Park at Big Foot recently stated that the swimming floats at Big Foot Beach were removed because swimming floats are not allowed to be placed at unsupervised beaches in Wisconsin. Not only is the management of Big Foot State Park not responsible for the riparian applications, not Lake Geneva’s waters but the beach property is also owned by the City of Lake Geneva. Floats are certainly allowed at ‘unsupervised’ beaches. How else are swimmers and beachgoers to know to be far enough away from the powerboats? How are the boats to know to be far away from the swimmers? Logic, even when staring one in the face, sometimes is simply not enough.
Telling the masses that they are going to have to allow the spending of hundreds of thousands of their dollars to have better police response time in Lake Geneva Harbor is of similar ridiculousness. There is no such place as Lake Geneva Harbor. There’s a stretch of shoreline, and that’s it. The ‘lagoon’ is not a lagoon at all. It’s merely the exit stretch of water just before where the water goes over the spillway to become the White River. Reality is always a mix of facts and mythology, wherein sometimes reality is only the result of universally believed mythology.
There’s quiet talk of increasing parking revenue by raising prices and also expanding paid parking months, even though part of the current leadership’s objection to the former mayor’s reality of doing just that during her term was used as an argument for replacing her. There’s talk of increasing the use of speed bumps to quell the never-ending speeding crime of passing cars. The public, except when driving, always wants others to go slower, no matter what the speed limit is, except when they are driving.
Even Big Foot Beach, a real sand beach in years gone by, is no longer a real beach as the tiny ribbon of mixed dirt and sand cannot truly meet any definition that makes sense. It’s now the Big Foot shoreline, although because of illegal extensions of piers and buoys at the south corner, it may all soon be known as Big Foot Harbor.
