THE BRIGHT SIDE

Oktoberfest in downtown Lake Geneva is getting an update.
This year’s event is on Saturday, October 11th, and Sunday, October 12th. Things could look a little different this year, with locations being switched around for certain activities, hoping to help with the flow of people by the lake and in town. Businesses will be having their own special sales and events to coincide with Oktoberfest, along with sidewalk sales.

Downtown Lake Geneva (BID) is also partnering with the local schools so the kids can design and make selfie stations for photo opportunities. Of course, there will be the usual activities, including the Beer Garden, kids’ activities, food, shopping, live entertainment, and more.

Dragon Days Fall Fantasy Festival is back by popular demand.
Dragon Days will be the first weekend in October, the 4th and 5th. You can purchase tickets in advance at www.dragondays.org. Patrons of all ages attending the festival will get to experience the fantasy faire in the beautiful parks along the lakeshore of Geneva Lake. Explore the fantasy village, trick or treating in the Enchanted Bazaar, enjoy the hay bale dragon days dungeon maze, and don’t forget to dress up for the costume contest.

There will also be medieval craftsmanship demonstrations, medieval music, circus performers, archery, swordsmanship, and a bazaar with clothing, jewelry, crafts, and gaming merchandise. Lake Geneva is the birthplace of fantasy, making this the perfect place for a fantasy festival. Lake Geneva is the home of Gary Gygax, the best-selling author and the creator of the first role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons. It is also the home of Gygax’s original game company, TSR, which produced D&D and other popular games. Events will be held at several venues, including Library Park, Geneva Lake Museum, Geneva Theater, American Legion Hall, Horticultural Hall, Lake Geneva Library, and the birthplace of D&D at 330 Center Street.

The opening Ceremony and Library are free. Admission for all other venues is $20.00 for the weekend and $15.00 for one day; children 12 and under are free. Festival passes purchased ahead of time at dragondays.org or can be picked up at the admission booth located at the northwest corner of the Lake Geneva Library. Rain or shine, this fun-filled Fantasy Festival will have something for everyone to enjoy
