LIVING HERE

A potential change to the Lake Geneva garbage pickup schedule may be in the works.
John’s Disposal Service is proposing a change to the bulk items collection system. As of right now, residents are scheduled for one bulk pick-up day a month, which coincides with the regular pick-up once a month. Most residents are well aware of which week this falls on and prepare ahead of time to utilize the service. This service does not include electronics and has some restrictions on the number of certain items, such as tires are allowed to be disposed of at one time.

The new proposed program would allow residents to dispose of bulk items once a month, but the residents need to call ahead of time and schedule each collection. Collections would still be made every week, and residents would schedule which week. With this new program, some qualified household electronics will be included in bulk collection. This new proposal is meant to be more efficient and reduce the cost of service, and reduce the class B vehicle traffic on city streets.

If the program is adopted, it will go into effect in January 2026 with a three-month grace period for residents to get used to the new system. Not everyone is going to be happy because some residents enjoy the current system as it is what they know and are used to, while others are looking for the convenience of being able to schedule according to their personal needs. This is not a done deal. Lake Geneva Public Works needs to vote on recommending the proposal or not, and send it off to City Council for final approval or not.
