OUR PLACE

A wild raccoon fell through the ceiling of a restaurant at the popular Grand Geneva Resort.
According to authorities, the raccoon bit at least one guest before it was corralled into a room and taken away by wildlife control. At about 7:30 p.m., the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a rescue for a guest at the Grand Geneva Resort, for reports that a guest had been bitten by a raccoon. When officers arrived, they learned that the raccoon had fallen through the ceiling tiles at one of the restaurants inside the resort and landed on a dining room table.

One of the guests at the resort tried to rescue or capture the raccoon but got bitten in the process. Officers and members of the Town of Lyons and City of Lake Geneva Fire Departments, who also responded to the scene, were able to scoop the raccoon into a small, private dining room and wait until animal control arrived. At one point, one of the officers placed a garbage can over the raccoon to contain it until wildlife control could put it into a cage.  It wasn’t immediately clear what the extent of the injuries from the bite was or if the guest received treatment.

The Green Bay Packers help Walworth County.
The Green Bay Packers Foundation announced this week that seven Walworth County-based nonprofits are among 395 civic and charitable groups throughout the state of Wisconsin to benefit from $1.5 million in its annual distribution of grants. This year’s grant cycle focused on organizations that will direct the funds toward the need areas of animal welfare, health and wellness (including drug, alcohol, and domestic violence), civic and community initiatives, and environmental causes. The grants awarded by the Foundation are not recurring and must be used for the specific program or initiative for which the organizations applied.

The Packers Foundation and its annual grants are part of Green Bay Packers Give Back, the Packers’ all-encompassing community outreach initiative that comprises appearances made by players, alumni, coaches, and staff; football outreach; cash and in-kind donations; Make-A-Wish visits; and community events.

This year’s Walworth County winners are Dementia Friendly Community Initiative – Walworth County Inc., Geneva Lakes Family YMCA, Join the Movement Events, Inc., New Beginnings APFV, Inc., Delavan Aram Public Library Foundation, Tree House Child and Family Center Inc., and VIP Services, Inc.
