OUR PLACE
January is an opportunity for a clean slate, which often includes New Year’s resolutions.
Resolutions are often improvements in one’s life. Dry January fits right in with that. Many people spend the holiday season celebrating, which often includes adult beverages, with New Year’s Eve being a huge drinking celebration. Almost ten years ago, one individual decided to challenge herself after waking up with a horrible hangover on New Year’s Day. The next day, she was committed to not drinking alcohol for an entire month.
This challenge grew, and more people joined, and Dry January became a thing. The challenge quickly grew into a global phenomenon. Many realized that not drinking for a whole month came with some big health benefits. Moderate drinkers can experience better sleep, weight loss, more energy, clearer skin, and more from just one month of not drinking. It’s never too late to join the challenge, and at any point throughout the year, one can take on the challenge.
A billionaire bought the holding company that owns the Regional News.
That paper has been hemorrhaging thousands of dollars every month for years. Given the kind of men who have become billionaires in this country over the past twenty years, it is unlikely that this new power figure will continue the News. That would be a blow to Lake Geneva and only leave the GSR as the remaining truly local newspaper. Some might be upset with that, as the GSR leans pretty far left in a very conservative county.
