LITTLE GEMS

With summer almost here, that means hot, humid weather is coming, and with that comes the bugs, including mosquitoes and ticks.
Ticks seem to be a bigger problem across Wisconsin this summer. Health officials warn this could be a severe year for ticks and tick illnesses, including Lyme disease. Protect yourself when going out to hike or spend time in wooded, tall grass, and brushy areas with clothing that covers your skin and insect repellent. Thoroughly check your body, children, clothing, and pets after spending time outdoors.

Mosquitoes are more active when there are warm temperatures, heavy rainfall, and humidity. Juvenile mosquitoes need standing water to develop, so to help prevent swarms in your back yard by checking for any stagnant water in and around your property. This summer is expected to be biting, as all the weather variables for mosquitoes are perfect for them to thrive.

The City of Lake Geneva will be fogging for mosquitoes as needed during the months of July, August, and September. Specific dates will be posted on when and where the fogging will take place on the City of Lake Geneva Website. The city understands there are concerns about the fogging and will conduct the fogging during times when residents are less likely to be outside and complete each event by 2 a.m. There are no special precautions needed as the insecticide used is rated non-hazardous. If you have more questions, you can contact the public works department at 262-248-6644.
