Local emergency personnel were threatened online by a local man.
Elkhorn police said they received a complaint about life-threatening statements made on Facebook toward an Elkhorn Fire Department member. Investigators said additional Facebook threats involved events in Elkhorn and Lake Geneva, as well as several Walworth County officials. A 19-year-old Elkhorn man has been charged after police said life-threatening statements were made on Facebook towards an Elkhorn Fire Department member and others.
The Elkhorn Police Department said officers received the complaint on Wednesday, May 27. Detectives opened an investigation and learned additional threatening statements had been made involving events in Elkhorn and Lake Geneva. During the initial investigation, police said another statement was posted from the same Facebook account threatening several Walworth County officials depicted in a photo. Screenshots from the accused person’s page show postings that say “I will cause a big scene at the Elkhorn Memorial Day parade on Monday. Go f*** yourself, cops.”
Another post says, “I am serious about the big scene I will cause at the Elkhorn Memorial Day parade.” Police said the same Facebook account also threatened Walworth County officials. While working on identifying Hypershadow, the detective found another comment on a post on the Walworth County Government Facebook page. The detective then reached out to a second detective who was assigned to investigate that post, who then informed him that the comment was saying that he was going to shoot the people in a photo that was posted.
The detective later reported that he received the results from Facebook with information regarding Hypershadow. He was then able to identify Hypershadow as Dakotah J. Burns. The 19-year-old was arrested on charges of terrorist threats and threatening to cause bodily harm to individuals involved with a court or legal system. Police Chief Jon Albrecht said criminal charges have been referred to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.
