LITTLE GEMS

South Lake Shore Drive Boat Yard.
As one drives north or south on South Lake Shore Drive.  There’s a yard, right on the edge of South Lake Shore Drive, just up on the northern hill coming up from the lake when driving north, and in the yard are a bunch of boats, some with motors and some without, that are blatantly sitting there for sale.  That is not part of the residential package in Lake Geneva.  There are plenty of rules about such activity.  Something needs to be done, as this is the second violation.

The new stop signs at Broad and Dodge.
It works, in a sort of wonky on-and-off way.  If you have traveled up or down Broad, then you have encountered the new stop sign.  When few vehicles are around, it works just fine, as long as you’re paying enough attention to see the signs.  The city quite wisely placed two big signs right out in the middle of the road, giving plenty of warning.  The problem, and there can be a problem, is when there are a lot of other vehicles there. Where once cars and trucks were zipping along at speed, there can now be a nexus of encountering creatures, part metal and part human.  People don’t do a great job of paying close attention to who arrived at an intersection first at a new four-way stop.  That can create anger and even road rage.

The location of these new stop signs has also made it, sometimes, a real hassle to back out of the angled parking stalls located on both sides of Broad.  Twenty-nine of them.  The twenty-nine are the only slots left since Chicago Dog bought all the other off-street parking spaces everyone used to use to go to Simple Restaurant, thereby leaving plenty of spaces for the other business entities up and down the street.  Chicago Dog has gone missing ever since his application for fencing permits and parking permits met with no success at City Hall.  That whole situation is much less the fault of the ‘Dog’ than of the supposed Town Bank that sold all the stalls to him while nobody was looking (mostly Tom Hartz, owner of the wonderful Simple).
